TDE was a no-brainer. nice to see NY get two ambassadors. in general, it’s cool to see there be enough actual emcees for an enjoyable cypher.

regardless of ppl questioning the integrity of process, it’s still a major accomplishment. it’s definitely an opportunity i’d accept, but it ain’t the only way to heaven.

You've got that real hip hop, and raw, gritty beats with Handful of Dust and When We Were Kings, but Joy & Pain is definitely a different sound, with a more musical/electronic vibe, but dope nonetheless. All are great projects. Where do you see your sound and musical style going from here?

i’m looking to settle in a broader hip hop/rap sound. to date, the sound has been defined by the project. moving forward, I’m looking to stabilize that. I won’t revisit the sound of Joy & Pain and Handful of Dust again (outside of something like Polaris or Nina). and WWWK obviously is a throwback sound. A song like Stolen Whips fits in the direction I’m going in. In general, the “underground” sound and aesthetic is something I’ll be putting behind me. But I can show you better than I can tell you…with the next project.

i reached out through a mutual friend because I wanted him on “Polaris”…then we discussed him possibly producing an EP for me (Handful of Dust). the relationship is a professional one. working with him has been a great experience.

how did you figure out that you wanted to rap and how did you get over that hump to do so.

man, always loved hip hop. always felt like i had a way with words. i didn’t actually take the idea of me rapping seriously until the landscape of hip hop started to change post-kanye. i got over the hump when my manz DG believed in me.

Huge fan of your amazing work. If you don't mind me asking, how long have you been working on your poetry/rapping? Also, any advice for an up and comer?

thank you. poetry, pretty much since grade school. i had a rhyme book in HS, but I never did much more than cyphering/battling after that. been a “recording artist” since ‘08. at that point i was decently skilled with the bars, but mad amateur as an artist. couldn’t make a song to save my life. but the beauty of artistry (when you love music), is that the process of improving is enjoyable. it’s like what i would imagine playin hoops to be like, if you love the game.

Son... you got some good good shit. You have a sick flow, alluring ass lyricism, and last but not least SUBSTANCE. I like Hand Full of Dust but I must say When We Were Kings is my favorite ep. I was sold on the tribe track, you get cool points and a cyber high five for that. Hurry that ass up and do some shows. - A FAN

man, i’m tryna redirect traffic back to When We Were Kings at every opportunity. especially in an environment like today, where a lot of ppl are into the whole nostalgia theme. i’m not tryna bring back the 90s, but that was a special project to me. classic era, classic feel. and i think we did a damn good job with it.

thank you for the words. nah nothing lined up, but i wouldn’t close the door on it at some point down the line. at the moment, my focus is taking the solo work a step forward. define myself with what I have in store for Hip Hop.

Who do you draw inspiration from in regards to your flow? I was listening to the EP and couldn't help but think you sounded like a cross between Blu and Kendrick (hope that's not disrespectful, just how I perceived it)

I wish i had a simple answer on flow, because various ppl have influenced me at different stages of my growth. in the beginning, it was eminem though. Infinite EP, Slim Shady LP and so on. so that served as the foundation. from there, i’d have to do a whole blog post on specific albums that have been instrumental to the flow.

and there’s no disrespect in that comparison at all. 2 of the best doing it right now, hands down.

U r an enlightened rapper... your lyrics taps into untouched territory roll with it man and if people in the game cant recognize that then something is wrong
